SHADE

Hana, a 16 year old girl, has been compulsively lying to her friends and family, creating a mask of the person she truly is. Aware, but unsure of why she can not stop, she looks through her past in search of answers.

What makes Hana like this?

Will Hana continue to lie to those around her?

Or will she break the cycle and be true to herself?

The player will be able to explore Hana’s bedroom and the school that she attends in order to possibly acknowledge her insecurities. After completing seven days, there are two end results that the player can meet.

The game includes various characters, interactable objects, a highschool setting, and a bedroom setting.

Design Values

Inspired by Omori and Undertale’s visuals, the game explores dishonesty and the results of this behavior. While dishonesty can be surface level, in this case, the issues are rooted to previous built trauma. The player is supposed to feel somewhat connected to Hana, as well as relief, satisfaction, and anxiousness.

Interface

WASD to move – E to interact – M to mute – [SPACE] to continue through dialogue

Game flow

Beginning in Hana’s bedroom, the player has the option to interact with some of the objects in her room. Next, she has to go to class and sit in her seat in order for a cut scene to play. This cutscene will create 2 options for the player and start the branching in the game. Afterwards, Hana is required to go to lunch and meet up with her friends and then go home. At the moment, this is just the game flow of one out of the seven days.

Art direction

Pixel art that is somewhat colorful, fully relevant to United States high schools.
